10 Fun Fall Hygge Ideas for the Whole Family

Every year, I look forward to fall, my favorite season. After the dust settles on the initial craziness of back-to-school, I yearn for a slower pace of life, longer evenings, and more coziness in front of the fireplace.

If you are looking for ten hygge fall ideas for the whole family, these are the ones you don’t want to miss!

Fun Fall Hygge Ideas

Host a bonfire

Bonfires are an excellent way to slow down and savor the fall season! Get together with friends and neighbors and tell stories or roast s’ mores. If you don’t have space for a bonfire, consider getting a cute gas-powered outdoor fireplace or fire pit.

Visit a pumpkin farm

Pumpkin farms are a great excuse to get outside during the fall months. Look at the fantastic selection of fresh pumpkins, take family photos, and maybe even get one to carve later! This is also a great way to bring nature inside your home and enjoy fall hygge.

Go for a walk as a family

Every night during the fall months, go for a walk with your family or your dog. The brisk fall air is the perfect setting for an evening walk and is a fun way to finish the day. I love the talks we have with the kids during our evening walks. You will be surprised at how much your tween or teen has to say once their feet hit the pavement.

Bake a special treat for your friends

There are so many delicious baked goods to make during the fall months! Fall is a great time to bake, and it will fill your home with delicious scents. Deliver your special treats to a friend to say “I appreciate you”. The Danish butter cookies are a fan favorite here at our house, loved by everyone.

Have a family movie or game night

Make a list of your family’s favorite movies, gather lots of pillows and blankets around the TV, and snuggle together. Enjoy a family movie night complete with popcorn! When we struggle to agree on a family movie, we often bring out our favorite board games. Family game night is just as much fun for the whole family and it’s a screen-free activity.

As an adult, when was the last time you jumped into a pile of leaves? This might sound childish, but it’s a fun way to celebrate the fall season! Rake a pile of leaves together with your kids and jump in! I bet your kids will enjoy the experience so much more with you as an active participant.

Go apple picking

Find a nearby orchard and go apple picking for the afternoon. Fresh apples will make a tasty treat for later, and picking apples is so much fun for every age. In case you haven’t spent a lot of time in an orchard, these apple-picking tips will ensure your day is a success.

Start a new book

Fall is a great time to dive into a new book or even a series! Choose a book to read or an audiobook to listen to and savor every last page of the story. You can even start reading a book with your family and spend each day reading a chapter or two. This is a list of my favorite reads over the past several years. My friends LOVE it when I share this list with them, it’s full of captivating stories and incredibly talented authors. There is truly something for everyone.

Make apple cider

Making apple cider takes a lot more work than buying it at the store, but it is a gratifying and fun family activity! This is a fun drink to enjoy all throughout fall, and your hard work makes it taste more satisfying. This apple cider recipe is a favorite in our house.

However, if your hot beverage of choice is tea, then treat yourself to the experience of Teabloom. Just picture yourself, snuggled in a blanket on the couch, with the teapot filled with an impressive display of a blooming Teabloom flower on the coffee table. The aroma of the fresh Teabloom ingredients filling the air… now THAT is fall hygge.

Make a slow cooker recipe

Slow cooker recipes are perfect for the fall months! Find your favorite comfort foods or fresh fall vegetables and put them together in the crockpot! Enjoy time with your family or friends while your favorite dish is cooking in the crock pot.

Adding a little hygge into your fall season can do wonders for your mental well-being and overall physical health! These activities help me slow down, savor the season, and embrace fall hygge.
