Get Cozy With The 10 Best Winter Hygge Ideas

The sound of falling snow has to be the epitome of hygge sounds. Listening to the quiet snowstorm taking place outside, while you are snuggled up in a fuzzy blanket in front of the fireplace, feet stuffed deep into pair of woolen socks and the latest release from your favorite author tucked into your hands, you breathe a sigh of contentment. THIS is the good life, THIS is winter hygge!

Winter is considered one of the coziest seasons of the year. The cold weather and dark evenings are perfect opportunities for hygge, providing countless ways to embrace the chill in the air and enjoy the company of loved ones.

cup of coffee on a tray for winter hygge

Here are ten cozy winter hygge ideas:

Play in the snow

If you are lucky enough to live in a winter wonderland, add some layers and go outside! While it might sound a little cold to head out in nature, snowy days are perfect for it! Play in the snow, make a snowman, and even enjoy some sledding! Embrace your inner child. Remember, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.

Have a picnic around the fireplace

It may be a little too chilly to go outside for a picnic, but you can set up an indoor picnic by the fire! This is a fun, cozy dinner with your family while you stay warm in front of the flames.

Bake cookies with your kids

Baking cookies is a fun way to hygge inside on cold winter days. Warm-up your home and spend time with your kids by making cookies from scratch! You can even spread hygge and joy by sharing your homemade creations with friends and neighbors.

Brave the cold

Don’t wait for a snowy day to brave the cold! Head out when the weather isn’t always bright and sunny, and enjoy the cold and crisp air. Going for a hike or just a short walk can be a great way to enjoy the colder temperatures.

Enjoy a cozy warm beverage

You don’t have to enjoy a cup of coffee if you don’t want to! You can have tea, cider, or even hot chocolate on a cold winter day! Sip on a warm beverage from the comfort of your home. Our kids love warming up with hot chocolate by the fireplace after playing in the snow. (Don’t miss my collection of the best of the best hot cocoa recipes  in “The Most Awesome Hot Cocoa for Winter Hygge“)

Invite your neighbors over for a game night

When was the last time you hung out with your neighbors? Invite them over for a board game night or a video game night! Go for either fun party games that anyone can play, or opt for team-based games. Adults vs. kids or households vs. households, the competition is fierce and the fun is endless.

Try a new soup recipe

Winter is the perfect time to try out a new soup recipe! Search online for some ideas and make a delicious soup to warm you up during the cold winter months. Don’t get discouraged if the kids aren’t into your new soup craze, with time they will learn to try new flavors and textures.

Enjoy a relaxing warm bath

A hot bath can do wonders to help you relax. Slow down and savor your time in the water while the rest of the world is on hold for a bit. Add some bath bombs, light a candle, and enjoy a little time to yourself. (These succulent bath bombs are as relaxing as they are adorable – there’s a lot of hygge to be had in making your own bath bombs too!)

Curl up under a warm blanket

Whether you are watching TV or reading a book, curl up under a warm blanket! Everything is better under a fuzzy blanket. Last year, my husband gave me an electric blanket for Christmas. It was by far my most coveted gift… and THAT is also when I realized I am officially now considered “an adult”.

Learn a new craft

While things are quieter and everyone is home, treat yourself to a new creative outlet. Learn how to embroider, crochet or how to use a Cricut machine. There are countless craft tutorials online, so you can easily learn a new skill from the comfort of your couch.

Winter is the perfect time to practice hygge in your home and with your loved ones. Embrace the coziness and enjoy the slow winter days to come.

Spring will be here soon enough, hibernate and winter hygge for as long as you can.

This is not a “hot girl summer” for me… it’s a “snail’s summer” and I hope yours is too! 🐌❤️ #snailssummer #hotgirlsummer #perimenopauselife #slowdown #slowliving #summervibes☀️

🎁 What is my best (and favorite) sanity-saving parenting hack?” you ask?! 🎁
I love keeping a fully stocked “gift closet” - especially this time of year when last minute gift-giving opportunities arise and community toy drives are everywhere.
I recently went to Target and stocked up on their selection of KiwiCo boxes.
If you aren’t familiar with KiwiCo boxes, they are STEM/ STEAM inspired boxes of creative goodness for kids of all ages. These gifts are a fan-favorite among boys and girls alike.

We have gifted and received countless KiwiCo boxes over the years. They provide hours of scree-free hands-on play and entertainment and there’s always an opportunity for the kids (and adults) to do a deep-dive into a related science topic.

I bought the
Jumping Robot (ages 9+)
Domino Machine (ages 9+)
Crystal Ombre Soap (ages 7+)
Light-Up Wire Art (ages 9+)

Next time you are at Target, swing by the toy aisle and grab a couple KiwiCo boxes… and don’t forget to pick up an extra one for your own kids.
The Domino Machine will NOT make it to the gift closet, Jonah hi-jacked it right away!

It feels great to be ready for the highly impromptu gift-giving season - it takes my stress down a few notches, which is a total win-win situation! 🏆

If you’ve followed my page for a while, you know my love for Aetrex shoes runs deep.
Their new Mila style boot is incredibly comfortable, I wear them when I take our little one for a walk, when I grab coffee with a friend or when I enjoy a few minutes of alone time. @aetrexworldwide developed their shoes and signature arch support based on data from over 50 million global foot scans - in other words, a lot of thought went into designing these shoes, so you can be comfortable and not think twice about wearing them!

Today, I met with a new sleep doctor. 👨🏻‍⚕️
As I replay our conversation in my head, I am struck by the magnitude of his words. He asked, what I would like out of the appointment, if I questioned my diagnosis of Narcolepsy Type 1. 😴
I don’t question my diagnosis, nor have I ever - but I worried he would. 🤔
After we spoke about my sleep routine and daytime sleepiness, he said “even though your sleep study is 20 years old, I don’t doubt its accuracy.” ✅
Going into the appointment, I had been worried about meeting a new medical professional, wondering if he would believe my diagnosis, if he would question my symptoms and make me jump through hoops before he would help.
But my worries were all for nothing and I sit here feeling heard, seen and validated - I know, with a diagnosis like mine, that’s not something to take for granted. ❤️ Advocating for yourself when you have a chronic invisible medical condition is exhausting… tonight, I feel a little less exhausted - and that’s quite the feat for someone with Narcolepsy. #Narcolepsy #NarcolepsyNotAlone ( Photo credit: @thesproutingimage Bedding: @moderndane )

I told him this morning, that I am fiercely proud of how hard he worked this year, how much he learned and especially how well he has advocated for himself. 🥹 He will start 5th grade back at our neighborhood school - which is a direct result of his hard work and self-advocacy. 🏫 I will miss our time together homeschooling. (Understatement of the year!) But I now understand the intricate details of how he learns and this knowledge will help me unapologetically support him through the rest of his school years. 📚 Jonah, thank you for allowing me the honor of being one of your teachers this past year. Have you tried self-paced classes through @outscho Have you tried self-paced classes through @outschool ?

The self-paced classes are perfect for:
* Kids who are either homeschooled or not, but want to deep-dive into an area of interest.
* Kids who want learn at their own pace, on their own time.
* Students who get overwhelmed by online learning and busy online classrooms.
* Students who don’t want to wait for weekly sessions, but would rather “binge-learn” all the content over a few days.

The classes are pre-recorded, but you still have direct access to the teacher via messages to ask questions or get feedback.

Our favorite self-paced class: “Learn Physics With Hands-On STEM Projects” with Ms. Jessica. We love this class because:
* We were able to complete two weeks worth of classes in two days.
* There are four fun hands-on experiments, easy enough for the student to complete independently.
* The teacher, Ms. Jessica encourages the student to think creatively to improve their design.
* The experiments can be done with household items you already own.
* All the learning feels like creative play and is taught in a way that invites the student to deep-dive into related areas of interest.

Vulnerable post: 🥹 This past weekend was emotio Vulnerable post: 🥹
This past weekend was emotionally draining, life changing and eye-opening. I went to the @wakeupnarcolepsy National Summit, which happened to take place just 40 minutes from our house.

I’ve never been shy about my Narcolepsy diagnosis. I’m always available to answer questions, encourage people to look for answers and offer support through their sleep disorder journey. In other words, talking about and spreading awareness of Narcolepsy has always come easy to me - because I felt like I was helping others.

This weekend, as humbling as it was, I came to realize that I might be the one in need of support. 🙋🏼‍♀️

I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy Type 1 twenty years ago. Over the years, I’ve connected with people online who share the same diagnosis. But however strange it may seem, I’ve never met a group of people with Narcolepsy face to face.

Sitting in a ballroom filled with other people with Narcolepsy and the nation’s top Narcolepsy scientists and clinicians (and even a dog with Narcolepsy Type 1) felt surreal and incredibly emotional. Hearing other people’s journeys to diagnosis, realizing how we all share similar paths and daily struggles truly left me shaking and emotional. 🥺 (… and tired 😴)

I am blessed beyond measure to have my husband and kids as my biggest supporters and amazing daily cheerleaders. 📣🥰

But I now also realize, how valuable it is to be part of a community of people who know your struggles without being told and share in your triumphs - because your wins give them hope and encouragement. 🥳

Here’s to realizing the importance of reaching out for support and encouragement.

Today is the day, I will follow the advice I give others to find support groups and connect with people who share your diagnosis and journey.
