Embrace Spring With These 10 Fun Hygge Ideas
The days are a little longer, the sun a bit warmer and tiny white flowers are breaking through the soil. Spring hygge!
Spring IS in the air. Along with spring’s freshness and hope for what lies ahead comes an urge to get outside, breaking out of winter’s hibernation.
While the Danish art of hygge might make a lot of sense in the fall and winter months, that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy and thrive in the spring too! You can still embrace the cozy and enjoy the slow and simple parts of spring by practicing these hygge habits!
I know the title of the post promised you “10 fun hygge ideas”, but as I started to write, I kept adding things – so here you have 12 awesome spring hygge ideas!
(Why stop at 10 ideas when there is more hygge to be had?!)
Spring Hygge Ideas:
1. Bring nature inside
Decorate with fresh eucalyptus or a new plant for your home! In Denmark, they celebrate spring by putting cut branches with budding leaves in a tall vase, decorated with small Easter eggs for Easter, or left in their natural state as the leaves emerge.
2. Open the windows
After a stuffy winter of not being able to open the windows, leave your windows open for even just a few minutes. You’ll be surprised how much of a positive difference fresh air and bright light can make on a chilly spring morning.
3. Clean your home
Show your home some love this spring with a mop and a rag. By spring cleaning your home, you make an effort to maintain and enjoy the things you have. Take good care of your home by giving it a thorough scrub-down. You can listen to your favorite music or an audiobook while you are swinging the broom. Once you let in the sunshine, all the dust and cobwebs you collected during the winter months will magically appear, trust me.
4. Add natural light to your home
While lighting candles can be an excellent way to brighten a room, allowing natural light can truly transform a room! Consider adding natural light to brighten up a dark room. Open all the shades, curtains, blinds – ALL the window coverings to let in the beautiful spring sunshine.
5. Get outdoors
Enjoy the warmer weather and get outdoors! Play outside with your kids, walk your dog (walk ANY dog), or even enjoy the time spent outside doing absolutely nothing. Find a way to spend time outdoors every day during the spring. Remember, the Danish saying: “there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.”
6. Light a fresh spring scented candle
Candles are appropriate year-round! Find a fresh spring scent such as rose or lavender to burn in your home. If you don’t want to use candles, look into aromatherapy such as potpourri or essential oils.
7. Declutter your home
Giving your home love during the spring is a great way to embrace your cozy home! Decluttering your home will help you spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying the things you love. I use this printable workbook every quarter to update and refresh the seasonal decor in our house. It’s so much fun and something that brings me a lot of hygge moments.
8. Gather beautiful flowers for your home
Pick wildflowers or buy flowers from the store or a farm stand to add a touch of nature to your home. This is an easy way to get a fresh pop of color into your home.
9. Eat your meals outside
On days when it’s nice out, take your meal outside! Even just sitting on the porch, eating a sandwich will feel amazing when it’s warm outside. During the spring, we like to enjoy our meals on the patio or go for a picnic in the park.
10. Sit outside and read a good book
Grab a good book and head outside. Spend time in the sunshine and dive into a book-club-worthy book. Soak up the warmth, vitamin D and disconnect from the outside world for a while.
11. Plan your flower and vegetable garden.
While you can’t start your spring garden until the last night frost is well behind you, there are plenty of things you can do inside to ensure this year’s gardening success. Create a gardening plan and layout, prepare your seeds and starter plant inside.
12. Love your houseplants.
After a long winter, chances are your houseplants are ready to be repotted, trimmed, and even propagated. Spend time pruning and beautifying your plants. If you have empty shelves and windowsills treat yourself to a new plant – or three! (Remember, there’s no such thing as too many plants!
